Radwan A.Masmoudi, head of the Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy, said the causes of the current political crisis are the lack of culture and morals in the democratic process, which is based on the principle of co-existence, dialog, and acceptance of the other opinion as a citizen and a human being.
Radwan A.-Masmoudi said in a declaration to "Public Opinion" that it is possible during the democratic transition to change the laws and to focus on new institutions quickly, but without the culture, ethics, and values of democracy, the pillars of this solid building cannot be fixed. He noted that in Tunisia today there are still groups that do not respect the principle of respecting the opinions of others, accepting the results of the elections, accepting defeat, working to impose their opinion, and striving to go out to the media always and speaking on the name of the people who did not of the people.
Al-Masmoudi stressed the need to focus on the culture of co-existence and acceptance of other actors in political life to contribute to the completion of the project and the nascent democratic construction. He also pointed to the problems of the lack of a culture of democracy, and their positions became characterized by the nature of transformation and rapid change.
The speaker explained that strengthening the values of democracy and co-existence is the responsibility of everyone today, calling for the need to work on the ethics of political life, as it has become one of the most urgent demands at present, in parallel with completing the building of institutions and reviewing some laws, such as the electoral law, which allowed parties to the parliament to rise with the largest remaining electoral blocs, which distorted the political scene and destroyed the political scene in the country.
A-Masmoudi explained that building the democratic track will not take place in Tunisia today in isolation from the ethics of political life, because today's society also suffers from a very large moral and moral crisis. This is the result of the destruction and moral damage in educational and religious institutions, which accompanied the rule of Ben Ali for two and a half decades, while this issue has not been given the attention it deserves after the revolution, which contributed to its infiltration within partisan and ideological conflicts.
